The Interview

The interview was held in mid October at the Winery with Amber Lane – Partner and self proclaimed “Tasting Room Sweeper”. Over an extraordinary blend (see “Intuition”) Amber was asked the below:

Q - How did you get into the Wine Business?
A - I got into the wine business because I loved wine and I imagined sipping wine all day and hanging out with fellow wine lovers and calling it “work.” All joking aside, the real catalyst was Annette Bergevin, whose father founded Canoe Ridge Vineyards in Patterson, WA. Annette and I worked together (In a different field) and I discovered that she was pretty closely connected to the wine world. After that, it was just a matter of checking out Walla Walla (loved it) and getting Gary Bergevin to agree to start a winery with the three of us.

Q - Can you describe “Your Passion”?
A - My passion is the simple drive to create, find a challenge to educate myself, and to enjoy life and good wine in the process.

Q- What do you want to be “When you grow up?
A - I want to be known for living my life to the fullest and being a good person.

Q – Would you share a memorable or defining “ Wine Moment” ?
A - At one of our first wine dinners south of Bellingham, Annette and I hosted about 35 people. I can’t say that the food pairing was all that great, but It was one of those nights that people talk about for years…. because it got a little crazy! About 3 cases of wine consumed, one ruined pair of shoes, and one confirmed pregnancy. For the record, Annette and I did not ruin our shoes and did not get pregnant!

Amber was kind enough to add these comments:

I just want people to know that Tim came into our tasting room one beautiful October afternoon. With his Robert Parker guidebook on the tasting counter, I quickly estimated that this man was serious about his wine! We spent about 45 minutes together and by the time he left, I felt like I had made a new friend. (That’s easy to do when wine is involved!) I have a feeling that if you buy wine from Tim, you will never buy wine from anyone else without comparing them to Tim. He’s passionate and knowledgeable about wine but importantly -he’s a super nice guy. I look forward to visiting the shop and tasting our wines with everyone. Cheers,
